Bulls lock Fudge Mabeta has been caught having a toke of the waccy backy.

Well, to be precise, the youngster’s urine tested positive for cannabis after the ABSA under 21 semi-final on 11 October and the Union has requested for his B-sample to be tested. Should the lanky lock turn in a second positive test, he can expect to be suspended for 3 months or more.

This is the same player who was recently involved in an altercation with Pretoria police, one in which teammate John Mametsa ended up being entwined. The latter ended up spending the night in jail for his troubles.

The following is all just speculation:

Given Fudge’s “alleged” penchant for the leaf of life, it’s quite possible that we now understand why the cops were giving him such a hard time after a “minor traffic incident”. Perhaps the boys in blue smelled something slightly suspicious and were giving young Mabeta (allegedly the son of an important government official) the once over when Mametsa intervened. Mametsa himself has a court date on 5 December to jink his way through.

Mabeta is just the latest casualty of the “young lock curse” affecting the Bulls. In recent seasons, they have seen Cliff Milton, Adriaan Fondse, Francois van Schouwenburg (temporarily) and Juandre Kruger leave the Kraal, while they have also lost Hendrik Roodt to early retirement.
