Koster, Fatafehi to wing it against Boland?

Tongan rugby player Alipate Fatafehi could get another opportunity to prove his worth for the Stormers in Saturday’s friendly fixture against Boland in Wellington.

Stephen Nell writes for Die Burger that Fatafehi and Nick Koster could start as the wings for the Stormers.

Schalk Burger has recovered fully from an ankle injury and may play on the flank.

While the Stormers won’t be at full strength, it will certainly not be a complete second string taking the field.

Fatafehi’s future in the Cape may be determined by his performance on Saturday.

However, he struggled to make the grade in New Zealand with Otago.

His coach at Otago, Steve Martin, said he would have to improve his handling and defence to cut it at Super14 level.

“His strength is his speed, which is quite quick over 40m. He tends to take some time to get up to speed as he has quite long legs, but is fast once underway. He has a very long punt and is very difficult to tackle because of his size,” said Martin.

“He has had trouble with handling at times in his game and also his tackling. If he can improve these two areas, he may be able to play Super14 rugby.”

Fatafehi played only 14 games for Otago in his spell with them and scored four tries. All his games were on the wing.

“He is equally adept at centre or fullback,” said Martin.
