The Caveman revealed and leading the Lion Cubs

I always wonder when it comes to players who look like they just stepped out of a Braveheart movie. Sebastian Chabal, being the first to catch my attention…

Inquisitive mind like mine had to Google for pictures of the monster, before he grew his hair and beard and became a ferocious contender on the rugby field….turned out I was right…a very attractive species underneath all of that hair! A true Gentle Giant…

Then another Braveheart appeared on our local rugby fields. Non other than Lions loose forward Josh Strauss. Not surprisingly curiosity almost killed the cat again and I just had to get behind the beard….turns out, Mr Strauss might be a lion on the field, but when it comes to matters of the heart he is actually a pussycat.

The 24 year old Strauss relocated from Capetown to Gauteng in August last year. The beard that he started growing soon after, turns out to be a declaration of love and devotion to his girlfriend, Tami-Lee Otto.

When he left for Johannesburg, they agreed that he would let his beard grow until she is able to join him in Johannesburg. It all started as a joke, with Ms Otto telling him not to shave as she wanted him to “look as ugly as possible” and to be “unattractive to the Jo’burg girls”! (She obviously did not think that there might be woman like yours truly who can be very nosy!)

Well, we can all tell by the beard, that his sweetheart is yet to relocate to the city of gold….for the sake of JHB girls and most rugby watching females out there – I hope it’s sooner than later, as what lies beneath is one stunner, and we seem to lose out on some eye candy…

Perhaps Mr Gumede should pay for the relocation….I reckon this might just be a plaster to attract people to the Coke tin…

As it turns out, the bearded monster was appointed Leader of the pack for this coming weekends clash against the Brumbies – when asked to take the honors he humbly asked Mitchell:”Do you really have SO much faith in me?”

The Lions taking on the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday:

Jaco Taute, Lionel Mapoe, Dylan des Fountain, Alwyn Hollenbach, Deon van Rensburg, Elton Jantjies, Jano Vermaak, Josh Strauss (k), Michael Rhodes, Derick Minnie, Franco van der Merwe, Wikus van Heerden, Patric Cilliers, Bandise Maku, JC Janse van Rensburg.

Reserves:  Edgar Marutlulle, Kevin Buys, Warren Whiteley, Cobus Grobbelaar, Rory Kockott, Burton Francis, Jannie Boshoff.
