Ricky Januarie has retired from international rugby with immediate effect.

According to an SA Rugby press release, the Stormers scrumhalf has decided to step down after a discussion with Bok coach Peter de Villiers. The pair apparently discussed the likelihood of Januarie’s inclusion in the South African World Cup squad and based on the outcome of that talk, Januarie has opted to call it a day and rather concentrate on his new career with Lyon in France.

Unable to nail down a regular starting spot for the Stormers this year ahead of Dewald Duvanage, Januarie has also been released from his Western Province contract and will join up with Lyon ahead of the new European season.

Good luck, Ricky and au revoir. Thanks for the happy Bok memories, most notably that try in Dunedin a few years back.
