Henry reiterates effect of long season

All Blacks coach Graham Henry has indicated that some of the players that have attended a training camp in Auckland over the last few days are suffering from too much rugby, and will look to rest certain individuals before the World Cup later this year.

Henry was quoted as saying that the players are “overcooked”, and that the long Super Rugby season has taken its toll on the players, with a special mention to the Crusaders for travelling all over the world, with two trips to South Africa and a quick tour of London thrown in for good measure.

Now what exactly Henry has in mind is still unclear, but his thinking does seem to agree with the Springbok’s bigwig thinking of being careful not to lose any players ahead of the biggest competition in world rugby, albeit not on the same scale as Mr. de Villiers.

The All Blacks play their first match next Friday against Fiji, and as is expected, and as the Australians are doing this Sunday, the team is expected to be a set of second stringers. The big question is whether this set of second stringers will be called upon to defend the Tri Nations crown a week later?

News in the All Black camp is that Richard Kahui has been injured and seems set to miss out on Tri Nations action, while Israel Dagg, Isaia Toeava and Tony Woodcock are making progress in their respective injuries and will make a comeback to rugby in the ITM Cup before being considered for the away leg of the Tri Nations.
