John Smit believes his shoulder injury is nothing that a little bit of strapping won’t be able to fix.

John Smit has rubbished suggestions he has torn ligaments in his arm/shoulder and that it will rule him out of the 2011 RWC in New Zealand. At the post match press conference, where Smit was quizzed on the injury, he is quoted as saying “I pushed it a little bit further back [than it should have bent],”

He goes on to say that he might have been able to carry the injury if he was still playing at hooker but at prop it was not possible to continue. “At hooker I probably could have held on, but at tighthead I knew that I would not be able to reach fully and I would rather not have taken a chance.”

“It is probably nothing that Elastoplast can’t fix,”.

He continued to add that he hoped to be captaining the side in Port Elizabeth next weekend when the Springboks played their final 2011 tri-Nations match against.

A weakend All Black side will be lead by Keven Mealamu in Port Elizabeth and after the Bok loss to Australia yesterday they will fancy themselves with a good chance of wrapping up the 2011 Tri-Nations with a good victory over the Boks.
