Lambie in race against time

An unconfirmed report has suggested that Pat Lambie sustained a grade 2 AC joint tear to his shoulder in the opening minutes of Saturday’s test against the All Blacks in Port Elizabeth.

While the Springbok management team have to date remained tight-lipped about the injury, Lambie, whose arm is immobilised in a sling, might just be looking at an minimum of three weeks on the sidelines, casting a cloud over his availability for the Bok Wolrd Cup squad. The young Sharks backline play maker has made a strong claim for inclusion in the 30-man-squad over the last year with inspired play, both as a starting option and reserve, across a number of positions, most notably flyhalf and fullback.

Most pundits would have him down as a veritable certainty for the final group, unless this injury setback prompts a selection rethink.

We expect an announcement from the Bok medical staff confirming Lambie’s condition and prognosis, while the final World Cup squad will be revealed on Tuesday afternoon. Good luck, Pat – here’s hoping it’s not too serious.
