Stef scores (another) double century

When you get to the stage of your career that Stefan Terblanche has, virtually every appearance you make is bound to include a milestone of some sort. Last weekend’s 20 minutes on the park against the Leopards were extra special, though, in that in addition to everything else he has achieved, Terblanche has now also become the first player to reach the 100-cap milestone in two different competitions for the Sharks.

Back in April, Terblanche played his 113th Super Rugby game for the Sharks which, together with the 87 Currie Cup caps he had accumulated at that point, pushed him over the double century in terms of total games played for the province. On Saturday against the Leopards, though, he earned his 100th Currie Cup cap (for the Sharks – he also has played for Boland on 67 occasions) making him the only player to date to rack up a century of caps in both Currie Cup and Super Rugby for the Durban team.

Terblanche ended the 2011 Super Rugby season with 122 total caps in that competition, just 3 behind John Smit, taking his overall total across both competitions to 222. Assuming he plays out this season’s Currie Cup before calling time on his long career, that will mean a figure of 225 Sharks appearances, a clear record and one that is likely to stand for years to come.

Congratulations, Stefan Terblanche, on yet another well-deserved accolade in black and white!
