72 hours to go, is it enough?

The Super Rugby season is finally upon us, and with as little as 72 hours to go before this event kicks off, there is much still to be done.

In the next three days, there will be fourteen team announcements, of which I am quite sure the Sharks’ will be the last one. These fourteen teamsheets will then have to be examined and studied intently, noting players who are injured and who are out of favour.

After this has been done, we all will head over to our Fantasy League teams and either adjust for injuries and for players that simply haven’t been selected, and then select our starting fifteen. This process could take several hours as you trade in, then out, back in and then out again Dan Carter, as you consider starting the season with a man down.

After the extremely difficult task of narrowing down fifteen teams’ worth of players into a squad of thirty, you have to make your way to the Last Man Standing competition, where you have to risk your life, both literally and figuratively, and select your winning team for the weekend. For those that have gone tactical and selected a bye in the first round, the nerves might not hit you this weekend, but you can rest assured it will hit you!

By this time we are all exhausted, yet there is still another task at hand. You are still required to make your 7 selections for SuperBru. This might sound like an easy task, but looking at the weekend’s games, and having no form to work with, selecting seven winning teams is already a challenge, having to select an appropriate winning margin is even worse. This again, could take several hours.

My advise is this – Once a team is announced, amend your Fantasy League team accordingly. Once both teams in a match have been announced, make your SuperBru selection. Once you have a clear idea of who you want to select in the Last Man Standing competition, do it. Remember that the competitions close early Friday morning, so make sure to make your changes on Thursday evening.

In conclusion, stop working right now and get your teams in order. 72 hours might not be enough.
