Stirling Mortlock is set to miss the Rebels’ opening game of the Super Rugby season against the Waratahs on Friday, struggling with a calf injury that he suffered four weeks ago.

Good news for the Rebels is that new recruit Kurtley Beale has recovered from his hamstring strain and is likely to make his debut along with James O’Connor against the Tahs.

Another new recruit, Mitch Inman, is likely to fill Mortlock’s boots in the outside centre position, after having a good preseason with his new team.

The Rebels will also be without their first choice hooker Ged Robinson, who is battling with a calf injury.

Amongst the other teams we have the following injuries that we can report on:

Bulls – Wynand Olivier, Dewald Potgieter, Johann Sadie
Cheetahs – Juan Smith, Coenie Oosthuizen
Lions – Bandiso Maku, Waylon Murray, Ross Cronje, Wickus van Heerden
Sharks – Beast Mtawarira, Julian Redelinghuys, Willem Alberts, Jean Deysel, Al Hargreaves
Stormers – Deon Fourie, Rynhardt Elstadt, Schalk Burger

Waratahs – Lachie Turner, Drew Mitchell, Dan Vickerman, Berrick Barnes
Brumbies – Pat McCabe, Colby Fainga’a, Robbie Coleman
Reds – Adam Wallace-Harrison, Rod Davies, Quade Cooper
Rebels – Stirling Mortlock, Ged Robinson

Crusaders – Dan Carter, Richie McCaw
Highlanders – Shaun Treeby, Kendrick Lynn, Kade Poki, Siale Piutau, Jarrad Hoeata
Hurricanes – Reggie Goodes
Blues – Tony Woodcock
Chiefs – Toby Smith, Ben Afeaki, Lelia Masaga, Brendon Leonard
