The Highlanders have been named for their round 6 clash against the Rebels and with an injury crisis taking deep hold, New Zealand’s southernmost team have been forced into five changes to the side that went down in Canberra last week.

The loss of Colin Slade to a serious injury- one likely to keep him out of rugby for a year or more – sees rookie Chris Noakes entrusted with the number 10 shirt. Also out is All Black hooker Andrew Hore, replaced in the starting lineup by Jason Rutledge. Jarred Hoeata comes in for Culum Retallick at lock, with the latter replacing the injured Nick Crosswell on the bench, while Adam Thomson return at number 7, in place of Doug Tietjens, who is benched.

On the bench, reserve prop Bronson Murray is out, replaced by Ma’afu Fia, while Tietjens displaces Elliot Dixon from the number 19 jersey.

Highlanders: 15 Ben Smith, 14 Kade Poki, 13 Tamati Ellison, 12 Shaun Treeby, 11 Hosea Gear, 10 Chris Noakes, 9 Aaron Smith, 8 Nasi Manu, 7 Adam Thomson, 6 James Haskell, 5 Jarrad Hoeata, 4 Josh Bekhuis, 3 Chris King, 2 Jason Rutledge, 1 Jamie Mackintosh (captain).
Replacements: 16 Brayden Mitchell, 17 Ma’afu Fia, 18 Culum Retallick, 19 Doug Tietjens, 20 Jimmy Cowan, 21 Phil Burleigh, 22 Buxton Popoali’i.
