Meyer preparing for 2015?

With the news of Frans Steyn rejecting an offer to extend his contract at Racing Metro (well done to Rob who picked up on this before most news sites) the rumour mill regarding other overseas players being contacted by newly appointed Springbok Coach, Heyneke Meyer, is heating up.

Is Meyer preparing for 2012 or is he finding it hard to break ties with some of his old Bulls players? Word on the street has it that he would like former Bulls player, Fourie Du Preez, at No. 9 even if it is only for one season. Other Japan based players in the mix are Fourie’s Suntory Goliath team mate, Danie Rossouw and the Kobe Kobelco Steelers, Jaque Fourie.

I fully understand that Meyer has only 1 week with the Bok’s prior to the first test and would like to get off to a winning start but should this not be the perfect opportunity to blood the young up and coming Bok’s that are more likely to feature in 2015 than to select a team of players close to retirement who are playing good rugby but playing in leagues that are far off the Super Rugby pace?

In my opinion, François Hougaard should be given the No. 9 jersey as he is one of the most rounded scrumhalf’s out there at the moment, and with the talent we have locally at lock and loose forwards, why not give them the opportunity?

As I stated in the beginning, these are just rumours, but I for one would prefer they stay that way and see Meyer build on young talent so we can lift the trophy on October 17, 2015.
