Good and bad news for Lions

The Lions received a bit of good news amongst all the bad news, with Josh Strauss’s injury not serious enough to rule him out of this weekend’s clash against the Bulls, with the captain’s back injury clearing in time for the game.

Strauss injured his back against the Cheetahs this weekend, and also went down in the match against the Crusaders two weeks ago, and struggled to properly hit his straps in that game, but will soldier on as his team continues to struggle with injuries.

News24 reports that the Lions have used all of 33 players in the Super Rugby campaign so far, with the Cheetahs and Sharks each sitting on 28 players, and the Bulls and Stormers one behind on 27 each.

Worst of all is that we are bound to see more players getting Super Rugby game time for the Johannesburg franchise, as both Michael Bondesio and debutant Paul Willemse were ruled out due to injuries. Tian Meyer is set to continue in the scrumhalf jersey and the Lions’ lock troubles seem far from over with the coach having to make a call on either handing out another first start or recalling the out of favour Hendrik Roodt.
