The Cheetahs have called Elgar Watts to Bloemfontein as backup flyhalf after the injury to Johan Goosen, which has ruled the youngster out of rugby for four months.

Volksblad reports that the Cheetahs currently have only Sias Ebersohn and Riaan Smit in the flyhalf stocks, and Elgar Watts has been called to join the team in case either of these players get injured.

Watts has not been signed by the Union, nor has he been offered a contract. It is understood that he will he will train with the squad, but will only play should either Ebersohn or Smit go down injured.

Watts had his best season last year, when he lead the Boland Cavaliers to Currie Cup First Division success, scoring 185 points in the season and helping his team lift the cup.
