Stormers welcome back some big names

Allister Coetzee’s Stormers have been boosted ahead of their weekend derby with the Cheetahs by the return of three stalwarts from injury. The resulting reshuffle sees a fair few changes to the 22 that beat the Force in Perth a fortnight ago.

Jean de Villiers has finally returned after picking up an injury in week one of the tour and he comes straight back into his favoured inside centre position, assuming the captaincy in the process. Juan de Jongh and Bryan Habana both move one place further out as a result, with Gerhard van den Heever dropping to the bench, displacing JP du Plessis from the squad altogether. The other backline change sees Bok Gio Aplon named on the other wing in place of Danie Poolman, who also falls out.

In the front row, Frans Malherbe rotates with Brock Harris, while Deon Fourie goes from reserve flank to starting hooker. Tiaan Liebenberg will provide cover off the bench, meaning no place for Scarra Ntubeni this week. Eben Etzebeth is back from injury too, coming in to partner Andries Bekker in the second row, a move that sees De Kock Steenkamp fall to the bench and Don Armand lose his spot in the 22.

In the only other change, on-loan Canadian flanker Jebb Sinclair comes straight in to provide loose forward cover off the bench.

Stormers:
15. Joe Pietersen, 14. Gio Aplon, 13. Juan de Jongh, 12. Jean de Villiers (captain), 11. Bryan Habana, 10. Peter Grant, 9. Dewaldt Duvenage, 8. Nizaam Carr, 7. Rynhardt Elstadt, 6. Siya Kolisi, 5. Andries Bekker, 4. Eben Etzebeth, 3. Brok Harris, 2. Deon Fourie, 1. Steven Kitshoff

Substitutes: 16. Tiaan Liebenberg, 17. Frans Malherbe, 18. De Kock Steenkamp, 19. Jebb Sinclair, 20. Louis Schreuder, 21. Burton Francis, 22. Gerhard van den Heever
