Ludik in doubt for Cheetahs

According to a report on the Sharks website this morning, the squad is looking pretty healthy ahead of this weekend’s away game against the Cheetahs, although fullback Louis Ludik and flyhalf Pat Lambie are both in doubt for the must win derby clash.

Lambie went off at half time against the Force last week and as we reported on Monday, will need to pass a late fitness test to be cleared of concussion. With Fred Michalak playing well in the second half, Lambie’s absence could probably be accommodated, even though he does tend to lift all those around him when he plays.

According to coach John Plumtree, though, there is even more concern about Ludik’s bicep injury and it would be a blow indeed to the side’s chances should the former Lions man be ruled out. It’s probably safe to say that the Sharks’ recent return to winning ways and some level of consistency have coincided with Ludik’s return to the number 15 jersey; Riaan Viljoen will have a big job to do to rebuild a reputation that will have taken a bit of a knock after a succession of poor games earlier in the season.

More information on both players’ will no doubt come out later in the week. We’re expecting a mostly unchanged side to be announced tomorrow, with a number of brackets no doubt adding uncertainty ahead of the kick-off.
