The Australian team to face Argentina this weekend has been announced, with a new captain to take the reins and risk injury. Nathan Sharpe has been announced as captain of the side and will the team onto the field, becoming the fourth Australian captain this year.

Sharpe, who had originally intended to retire after the Super Rugby season finds himself as the form lock for Australia at the moment and will captain the side for the third time after a brief stint in 2004.

Changes had to be made to the team after the injury to Will Genia, with Nick Phipps getting the opportunity to show what he has, while coach Robbie Deans surprised many by dropping Kurtley Beale to the bench yet again, opting to play Berrick Barnes at fullback. Barnes’ 12 jersey is taken by Pat McCabe, who is back in the frame following injury.

Another injury replacement takes place in the second row, where Sitaleki Timani picked up a hamstring injury and is replaced by Kane Douglas, who will earn his first international cap. Stephen Moore, who missed the test with South Africa last week, has been bracketed in next to Saia Fainga’a as he is hoping to make the bench.

Australia: 15 Berrick Barnes, 14 Dom Shipperley, 13 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 12 Pat McCabe, 11 Digby Ioane, 10 Quade Cooper, 9 Nick Phipps, 8 Radike Samo, 7 Michael Hooper, 6 Dave Dennis, 5 Nathan Sharpe (captain), 4 Kane Douglas, 3 Ben Alexander, 2 Tatafu Polota Nau, 1 Benn Robinson

Substitutes: 16 Stephen Moore/Saia Fainga’a, 17 James Slipper, 18 Scott Higginbotham, 19 Liam Gill, 20 Brett Sheehan, 21 Anthony Fainga’a, 22 Kurtley Beale
