SA Rugby shocked at Analyst’s passing

The South African Rugby Union yesterday shared the sad news that former Springbok Analyst Malome Maimane had passed away, at the tragically young age of 41.

Maimane was a key part of Peter de Villiers’ management team, not only during the four years that the former was at the helm of the Springbok team, but also fulfilling roles with the SA Under 19 and Emerging Springbok squads that de Villiers coached. He had also played the role of technical adviser to both the Bulls and Lions at Super Rugby level.

Many who knew Malome, including a number of Springbok players and also the country’s assorted rugby writers, amongst whom he was widely liked and respected, took to Twitter yesterday to express their shock and sadness at his untimely passing, a measure of the esteem in which this knowledgeable and likeable “rugby man” was held.

We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Malome Maimane’s family and friends and let them know that our thoughts and prayers are indeed with them at this difficult time.
