Plum bemused at Dixon dismissal

Sharks coach John Plumtree, while clearly upset about the strange decision to show a red card to Pieter Dixon on Friday night after an accidental kick to the face, opted to take a measured approach in his criticism, as you’d expect of a man with his experience.

“I could understand a penalty because he was reckless. It was stupid,” the coach told Rugby365, “but it was certainly not intended.” Plumtree added that he wasn’t expecting Dixon to face any sort of further sanction after the incident which had commentators and spectators alike fuming with indignation at yet another bungle from the officials who are ruining our beloved game, week by week, with their vague and incoherent decisions. “Hopefully he would have paid the ultimate price with the sending off and not having to sit out any more,” said the coach, who secretly won’t have too many concerns, though, given that the injured Kyle Cooper is now firmly back in tow and expected to start in Bloemfontein this weekend, with Monde Hadebe his likely understudy.

There’s even an outside chance that the Boks could opt to release players not part of the match 22 for Saturday’s Soweto showdown against the All Blacks, in which case Craig Burden could also return to further bolster the hooking ranks.
