Cheetahs sign First Division flyhalf

With Sias Ebersohn leaving the Cheetahs at the end of the season to play for the Western Force Super Rugby team in 2013, the Bloemfontein outfit has lured Elgar Watts from the Boland Cavaliers.

The Volksblad reports that the Cheetahs have signed Watts as backup to Johan Goosen and Riaan Smit, the only two flyhalves in Bloemfontein ahead of what is sure to be another long Super Rugby season. On top of that, we already know that Goosen is injury prone, and with the young flyhalf being in the Springbok setup now, he will not have any rest from February through to August, and decent backup is required.

Watts has apparently been signed after an approach for Pumas flyhalf JC Roos was unsuccessful. According to backline coach Hawies Fourie, Watts is an attacking player that will suit the style of rugby the Cheetahs like to play.
