Jean will lead Boks

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers, although ruled out of the remainder of the Currie Cup, will still lead the team on the End of Year tour starting 10 November against Ireland.

De Villiers has picked up a Grade One hamstring injury, which will keep the centre out of action for three weeks, but will be back to full fitness in time to lead the Springboks in Ireland, Scotland and England.

Coach Heyneke Meyer appointed de Villiers as captain for the entire year, and although his record so far is not the greatest, he will be looking to add three victories in November to not only get his win record above 50%, but win back a diminishing support base in South Africa.

The tour is an ideal opportunity to give new combinations a go and try out the younger generation, but in the same breath, it will be good for the Boks to be able to select combinations that can grow and play together next year, and not to simply give away International caps.
