Ireland lose another key player

Ireland have been hit with yet another injury setback, this time in the form of captain and lock Paul O’Connell, who misses the match as a result of a back problem.

O’Connell adds to a list of players who are already missing the match, including big names such as Brian O’Driscoll and Rory Best. With O’Driscoll and Best ruled out along with O’Connell, coach Declan Kidney also has to find himself a new captain.

O’Connell led the British and Irish Lions on their tour to South Africa back in 2009 and will be sorely missed in both the captaincy role as well as competing with the next generation giant in Eben Etzebeth.

The captaincy of the team is likely to fall to eighthman Jamie Haeslip or flyhalf Jonathan Sexton when coach Kidney announces his team later today.
