Hi guys – remember me?

As some of you have probably noticed, I’ve been taking somewhat of an hiatus from this place for the last few weeks, feeling that a battery-recharge was long overdue after a frankly torturous domestic season for the Sharks. I’ve been kicking back, relaxing, trying really hard not to think about rugby at all and, most importantly, leaving you guys in the capable hands of Richard and others while I enjoy an extended period of morning lie-ins.

This post doesn’t, I’m afraid, mean that my sabbatical has reached an end – in fact, this “breaking of the silence” is really no more than a minor relapse, caused by the fact that rugby can never really leave my system for long. I also wanted to reassure you all that I do still care. About all of you. Even hendrikp and Megatron… Promise!

It’s a pretty exciting day, though. I’ve been in Glasgow since Wednesday doing something completely unrelated to rugby, but this evening I’m catching a train to bonnie Edinburgh to represent Sharksworld at tomorrow’s test match at Murrayfield. I’ll be sure to do live updates from the game, mostly on Twitter but probably on the site as well and while my impending mad dash from the stadium to the airport means I won’t get a match report up straight afterwards, rest assured that I’ll post some bits and pieces of juicy gossip in the week to come, assuming I can find any Springboks willing to speak to me!

As for what follows, well… After this tour ends, we’ll head into the off-season proper and generally the news is thin on the ground then anyway. I’m going to be travelling to South Africa for Christmas and New Year, meaning that I’ll continue to be a scarce presence here until mid-January, at which stage we’ll start to ramp up again ahead of the new Super Rugby season.

As always, I really value all the support and will catch up with all of you soon.
