Etzebeth could miss England match

Springbok Eben Etzebeth has been cited following the win over Scotland this weekend, allegedly making contact with the eye or eye area of Scottish flyhalf Greig Laidlaw, with his hearing to be held today.

The incident apparently happened in the second half of the match, and should Etzebeth be found guilty, will miss the last tour match against England, and could even miss the start of the Super Rugby season.

On the IRB scale of sanctions, eye gouging could fetch Etzebeth anything between 12 weeks and 24 weeks, with a maximum available ban being 3 years.

Etzebeth has been one of the players of the tour so far, along with Francois Louw, and would be a huge blow to the Springbok second row, with Flip van der Merwe likely to take over should Etzebeth miss the match. A left wing selection could see Willem Alberts play in the second row to allow Marcell Coetzee to start the match.

The Springbok team should be announced tomorrow.
