Super Sharks 2013

With Super Rugby 2013 around the corner lets look at some the players that will be wearing the Sharks jersey.

The Sharks will kick off their campaign against the Cheetahs who finished 4th in the South African Conference and 10th on the over all log.

Their 3rd game will be a first for the men from Durban when they will face the newly added Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth on the 9th of March. The boys from Port Elizabeth got a taste of Super Rugby when they faced the Sharks in a warn up game before the start of the 2012 season, that game ended 38-13 in favour of the Sharks.

Some might say that the Sharks had a successful year in 2012 having played in the Super Rugby and Currie Cup finals, but no trophy to show for any of the games.

There will be no doubt that the team gained some good experience and there will be a lot that they can take out of 2012 and make 2013 a success. The fact that they beat The Reds and The Stormers against all odds and away from home is testimony in itself that they are a team with character and they know how to pull together as a team if they need to.

What they probably can take from the Currie Cup final is that you cant just pitch up for a game and expect to win, maybe a bit too over confident from the Sharks but out played on the day by a team that was hungry for some silver ware.

Looking at the players available for Super Rugby the Sharks are very fortunate to have the core of guys that played in those two finals with only Frederic Michalak going back to France and Steven Sykes joining the Kings.

There will also be some new faces in the Sharks jersey, apart from the youngsters that came through the Currie Cup during 2012 there’s also two seasoned players in Butch James that thought it will be a good idea to finish his playing career where it all started, but lets hope without the bleach blond hair and then a loan from the Lions den in Franco van der Merwe.

Oh yes and then there is another old youngster returning to Kings Park namely Francois Steyn.

Lets wish the guys all the best for 2013 and have both Super Rugby and Currie Cup finals and cups in Durban.
