Flyhalf headache for Coetzee

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee might have a selection headache sooner than he expected, with news that Peter Grant could be ready to play from the first weekend of Super Rugby.

The Stormers face the Bulls at Loftus in the opening weekend and Grant could be back from his annual stint with the Kobe Steelers in Japan.

This leaves Coetzee having to decide whether to stick with the tried and tested and run with Grant at flyhalf, or allow Elton Jantjies, who will be playing the warm up games against the Cheetahs and Boland, to let the backline run.

It was reported that Jantjies went to the Stormers instead of joining the Sharks as a result of a guarantee made that he will have the flyhalf jersey, but with Grant in the mix from the start of the season, it could throw a spanner in the works, as Elton would have been expecting to play the opening rounds with Grant still in Japan, and in such a way cement his spot.

At the end of the day, no player can be guaranteed a jersey in such a long season, and the two are likely to split the flyhalf duties through the year.
