Cheetahs remain cautious with big names

The Cheetahs host the Stormers in Bloemfontein this weekend in what is the first preseason friendly for the Cape based side, while the Cheetahs will play their second game after losing to the Lions last weekend. The good news for Juan Smith fans is that the Springbok flanker will make his return to rugby in this match, after missing two seasons as a result of an Achilles injury.

Volksblad reports that Smith will be able to play both this match and a match against the Bulls next week, if he is able to remain fit, to prove his worth and get himself into the Cheetahs Super Rugby starting team. Smith will be able to win a contract as well, seeing as he is currently out of contract.

The Cheetahs are bound to play another second string team against the Stormers before playing their best fifteen against the Bulls next week, meaning that Smith and Adriaan Strauss would only get a few minutes this weekend.

Players expected to return from injury and play some small part against the Stormers are: flank Lappies Labuschagné (ankle), No 8 Philip van der Walt (knee), fullback Willie le Roux (groin) and centre Johann Sadie (hamstring).
