Smith calls it a day

Juan Smith, Springbok and Cheetahs flanker, has been forced to retire following an MRI scan which revealed that Smith has further injured his Achilles problem. Smith announced that he will quit all forms of rugby and will take a break before deciding on his future.

Smith made his return to rugby in the Cheetahs preseason looking hungry for rugby. He took part in two matches which resulted in another MRI scan and confirmation that the injury that has kept him out of the game for last two years, will keep him out of the game for the rest of his life.

It is a sad end to a player that most supporters will call a legend, giving everything on the field. He represented his country 69 times. Rumours are that Smith had to play through four games before a contract in France would become available. Whether he would have left his beloved Cheetahs team, is debatable.

We would like to wish Juan Smith the best in his recovery and hope to see him involved in the sport.
