Alberts out for a few more weeks

While there were no new injury concerns coming out of the Pumas game, news about Willem Alberts’ injury situation has come to light.

The big blindside’s shoulder continues to bother him and, according to Michael Marnewick of sharksrugby.co.za, he will undergo surgery to correct the problem, putting him out of action for four weeks.

With captain Keegan Daniel already out injured and Ryan Kankowski having just returned from a sojourn in Japan, the Sharks are a little short in numbers at loose-forward. Thankfully there is depth and Springbok Jean Deysel should be expected to take Alberts’ place on the side of the scrum for the first game of the season while Marcell Coetzee is also more than capable in that role if he is not required to do duty in the no. 8 jersey. Another exciting loose-forward prospect in Tera Mtembu can also expect to get some game time in the first few rounds of Super rugby.

More news as we get it . . .
