Jantjies set for reprieve

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee looks set to give Elton Jantjies another run at flyhalf this weekend, according to media reports.

According to Rugby365, Coetzee will apparently be “level-headed” after Jantjies turned in a below-par performance during his side’s opening round reversal at Loftus. Despite coming to the Cape highly-rated as both a goal-kicker and general play-maker, Jantjies struggled in both areas against the Bulls, with defence proving problematic as well. The addition of Peter Grant to the squad this week prompted suggestion that Coetzee would rush the more experienced man straight into the team.

He appears reluctant to do that, though, perhaps due to the length of Grant’s absence from the Stormers set-up as he’s plied his trade in Japan.

Speaking of Jantjies and the rest of the team, Coetzee confirmed that he ” knew there were going to be mistakes and I think it is fair to give the players a chance to rectify those mistakes.

“I still maintain Elton did some good things in the game,” he added. “You can’t judge him just on goal-kicking, it is just one part of the game.”

The Stormers play the Sharks in Durban this weekend and will have to make do without fullback Jaco Taute, who picked up a testicular injury at Loftus.
