The Melbourne Rebels have announced change ahead of the 2014 Super Rugby season, getting rid of a Wallaby and getting a new coach.

Following Australia’s walloping at the hands of the British and Irish Lions, James O’Connor’s weekend got even worse when news filtered through that his Rebels contract will not be extended beyond the end of the year, meaning the player will in all likelihood play his last match for the Rebels this weekend.

Rumours surfaced months ago that O’Connor was looking to join another franchise for next season, with the Brumbies coach Jake White opting to say ‘No thank you’ to rumours of him joining the Brumbies. He is likely to remain in Australia though, and news about his next rugby destination is sure to filter through later in the year.

Further news from Melbourne sees Tony McGahan appointed as head coach for the 2014 and 2015 season, this according to McGahan will replace Damien Hill when the current season ends, which is at the end of July.
