Lions put 50 past Bulls

The Lions beat a young Bulls team 50 – 12 in their continued preparation for the Promotion match against the Kings later in the month.

According to a report on Sport24.com, the Lions forwards inflicted a hammering on their light blue counterparts, setting up a good platform for the backs to work from.

First half tries from Stokkies Hanekom, Julian Redelinghuys, Hendrik Roodt and Deon van Rensburg gave the visiting side a 31 – 0 lead at half time.

The scoring continued in the second half as three more tries were scored through Derick Minnie, Anthony Volmink and Guy Cronje. Flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff scored 18 points with his five conversions and a penalty.

The Bulls only started scoring late in the second half, with Jacques du Plessis and Ruan Snyman crossing the white wash and Tony Jantjies converting one of his two efforts at goal.

The Lions would be happy with a positive result but need to keep their feet on the ground as the teams they are currently facing are a long way from the opposition currently taking on the Kings. It took the Stormers a while to put away the Kings this weekend, and with another tough match against the Sharks at Kings Park this weekend, their preparations for the Promotion match is on another level altogether.

Scorers:

Lions:
Tries: Stokkies Hanekom, Julian Redelinghuys, Hendrik Roodt, Deon van Rensburg, Derick Minnie, Anthony Volmink, Guy Cronje.
Conversions: Marnitz Boshoff (5), Lionel Cronje
Penalty: Marnitz Boshoff

Blue Bulls:
Tries: Jacques du Plessis, Ruan Snyman
Conversion: Tony Jantjies
