Demetri Catrakilis has signed a two year contract with Western Province, turning the short term loan deal with the Cape based side into a long term career move back to where he first made a name for himself.

Catrakilis won the Currie Cup with Western Province just under a year ago, after which he made a move to the Eastern Province to play for the Kings in Super Rugby. Since the completion of Super Rugby, rumours were that the young pivot would soon be back in the Cape, and that came with news that he was loaned back to Western Province, since the Kings do not play in the Currie Cup Premier Division. His reasoning for this move was to close in on a Springbok jersey.

Confirmation came through yesterday that Catrakilis has indeed signed a full time contract with Western Province, opting out of his Kings contract thanks to the clause that releases him to join another club should the Kings not continue in Super Rugby.

Catrakilis, once fully fit, should take over the flyhalf role for Western Province in the current Currie Cup tournament, while he is favourite to wear the ten jersey from the start of next year, even with Peter Grant returning to the fray after another season in Japan.
