Keegan Rhys Daniel, born in the rural farming town of Humansdorp, started his education at Gonubie Primary before moving off to one of South Africa’s finest rugby nurseries, Dale College Boy’s High School.

Keegan Daniel - courtesy ZimbioDaniel came onto the provincial scene in the from the Sharks Academy in the 2006 Super Rugby competition which earned him a well-deserved place in the South African under 21 team. Daniel was nominated for player of the tournament, where South Africa lost in the final and he went on to claim the South African u21 player of the year for 2006.

Keegan had a superb 2008 season where he earned man of the match awards in consecutive Super Rugby games against 2007 winners the Vodacom Blue Bulls and Auckland Blues, scoring 3 tries in that game.

Keegan holds the Super 14 record for fastest try, scoring against the Blues in 16 second after kick-off (Bryan Habana holds the all-time record of 8 seconds)

In 2010 Keegan was selected to tour with the Springboks in their outgoing tour to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. He was not selected as a part of the initial squad but was later added after his performances in the Currie Cup semi-final and final.

In 2012, Sharks’ coach John Plumtree appointed Daniel Sharks captain for the 2012 Super XV season. Jacques Botes was handed the captain’s arm band for the 2013 Currie cup campaign due to Keegan suffering an injury prior to the opening match against the Griquas.

Keegan has been capped 96 times in both the Currie cup and Super Rugby, scoring 31 tries in the Currie cup and 15 in Super Rugby.
