Yet more tightheads as Griquas STILL don’t have Adriaanse

You know, we Sharks fans grumble a lot about the fact that Pieter-Steph du Toit hasn’t been released for Currie Cup action this weekend, but spare a thought for poor old Griquas, who’ve been forced to fly in yet another emergency loan player to prop at three for them this weekend, while Lourens Adriaanse watches his umpteenth test match of the year from the stands.

Last week’s pair – Ewald van der Westhuizen and Brendan Pitzer – did a pretty good job of making Bulls loosehead Marcel van der Merwe look rather average, but have both been ruled out of the weekend game against the Cheetahs in Kimberley. Van der Westhuizen (a UJ loan player) picked up a leg injury, while Maties man Pitzer can’t play this weekend due to exams. Valke tighthead Nico Pretorius is the emergency cover this week – he’s come straight in for a first Griquas start, with Brummer Badenhorst again fit to provide cover off the wood.

Injury has removed ginger wrecking ball Burger Schoeman this week as well, meaning a first start of the campaign for RJ Liebenberg at blindside flank. A rotational change at lock sees Dalton Davis come straight in at 4, with Rory Arnold benched for this encounter. Pote Humans’ side does enjoy some rare continuity amongst the backs this week, however.

Griquas: 15 Gouws Prinsloo, 14 Richard Lawson, 13 JP Nel, 12 Howard Mnisi, 11 Rocco Jansen, 10 Francois Brummer, 9 Marnus Hugo, 8 Leon Karemaker, 7 RJ Liebenberg, 6 Marnus Schoeman, 5 Jaco Nepgen, 4 Dalton Davis, 3 Nico Pretorius, 2 Ryno Barnes (captain), 1 Steph Roberts
Replacements: 16 Matthew Dobson, 17 Brummer Badenhorst, 18 Rory Arnold, 19 Patrick O’Brien, 20 Jacques Coetzee, 21 Du Randt Gerber, 22 Jean Stemmet.
