Fourie back in business

Jaque Fourie may still add to his 69 Springbok caps and 32 Test tries, as he has brokered a deal which would make him available for Springbok test matches.

According to Brenden Nel from SuperSport, Fourie has signed an extention with his current Japanese club, the Kobelco Steelers, seeing him in the league for another two years. The big news is that he has negotiated a deal which allows him to be called up to the Springbok squad, much the same as Fourie Du Preez and George Smith has done recently.

Fourie has praised the Japanese league, being quoted as saying that it is much easier to keep the body fresh when they only have to play 20 to 25 games a year, unlike the 40 games a year the South African players see.

Although this news might come too late for Fourie to be included in the End of year tour squad to be announced this weekend, we might still see a certain JP Pietersen in that squad, thanks to a clause in his contract that allows him to play both the End of year tour and the June Internationals.

Fourie might be a useful addition to the Springbok squad, where he can surely assist in the growth of the next big name at outside centre, Jan Serfontein, while the need to play JJ Engelbrecht might fall away with his superior experience.
