EP Kings announce 2014 squad and fixtures

EP Rugby announced their pre-season friendlies and their squad for 2014 during a media briefing yesterday. The first round of friendlies see the Super Rugby Franchise, The Southern Kings, playing the Cheetahs on the 25th of January, the Lions on the 1st of February and the Stormers on the 7th of February, all three matches will be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Its not confirmed yet, but matches against the 2013 Currie Cup Champions, the Sharks, and the Bulls could be played during the Incoming tour Series in June.

During their Super Rugby matches, the Southern Kings lost to the Cheetahs 12 – 26 in Bloemfontein and 22 – 34 in Port Elizabeth. They narrowly lost to the Stormers in Cape Town 11 – 19, and 12 – 24 in Port Elizabeth. In their promotion / relegation matches, the Lions managed to beat the Southern Kings in the first match in Port Elizabeth by 7 points, 26 – 19, but failed to do the same at home, losing 18 – 23.

The Kings also announced their squad for 2014, contracting a lot of their u21 players from this year to form a relatively young squad mixed with more senior and experienced players.
