The Kings have named their team for the first of three warm-up matches, when they take on the Cheetahs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Veteran lock, Darron Nell, will captain the side with EP Rugby player of the year, Ronnie Cooke, as the vice captain. Promising youngster Sergeal Petersen will also be making his return to the senior side on Saturday.

With the loss of many senior players to other provinces the Kings had to borrow a few players, including scrumhalf Jaco Grobler, hooker JC Oberholzer (Leopards), lock Stephan Greef (Lions), centre Dwayne Jenner (Border) and hooker Tabbie du Plessis (Free State).

Du Plessis, who is the younger brother of Springbok duo Bismarck and Jannie, will not take part in Saturdays match, but Grobler and Jenner get starting positions with Greef playing off the bench. The rest of the team is made up of experienced campaigners mixed with a lot of younger up-and-coming Kings players.

Steven Sykes will partner Nell at lock, George Whitehead (who has been released form a wider Sharks Super Rugby training group) will cover the all important fly-half position. The back three for the Kings will ensure a lot of excitement as Micheal Killian and the elusive Siviwe Soyizwapi form a deadly attack with Petersen.

Nell said the players had been working on a few new things, and the Kings supporters could expect to see some entertaining and exciting rugby.

“We have always had good support at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and would love to have the fans come out and support us on Saturday,” said Nell.

Kick off will be at 5pm (not televised)
