Things looking up for Bulls

Buoyed by a set of good performances from some of the key men introduced last week, things are finally starting to turn around in Bulls country.

With Victor Matfield and Jacques-Louis Potgieter, in particular, making clear differences in their respective position against the Lions on Saturday, the Bulls had far less of a “deer in the headlights” look to them at Loftus and put in the sort of performance that, besides adding an all important digit to the “W” column on the log, actually gave their fans hope that there might be something to cheer about after all in 2014.

Further boosting their prospects ahead of this weekend’s must-win clash against the Blues is the news that Bok flanker Deon Stegmann has finally been passed fit. Having lost both Arno Both and Pierre Spies to long-term injuries, the Bulls will be looking to Stegmann, who has suffered with a groin injury over the last month, to add some much-needed experience to their loose trio. Furthermore, his ground skills will only strengthen a loose trio that has looked a little one-dimensional in the opening rounds.

The news is less good for Jonno Ross, the man who Stegmann would in all likelihood replace, as he has picked up a quad injury. Prop Frik Kirsten is also struggling with a back injury and may be in doubt for the Blues game.
