More game time for Daniel

Keegan Daniel will start at blindside flank for the Cell C Sharks XV as they take on the Regent Boland Cavaliers in a Vodacom Cup South Section clash in Ceres this weekend.

Daniel has battled with injury this year but finally made a return to the Sharks Super Rugby 23 last week, scoring a try as a replacement against the Waratahs. Unlike other members of the squad, though, it seems he hasn’t been given this week off and will form part of an exciting back row that also sees Tera Mtembu return to the fray, in his preferred position of number 8.

The loss of a number of players to the SA Under 20 trials this week has seen some reshuffling from coach Deon Kayser. The back three is unchanged, but Andre Esterhuizen will have a new midfiled partner in veteran Quentin Crocker, as both Neil Maritz and Sandile Khubeka are unavailable. Tim Swiel and Hanco Venter continue as the halfbacks.

Up front, Khaya Majola continues in the number 6 shirt, while Peet Marais starts ahead of Edwin Hewitt at lock this week. There’s no sign of Wiehahn Herbst, meaning a start for Danie Mienie at tighthead, while Thomas du Toit will bench (he was also in Cape Town all week) for Mox Mxoli, who returns to the side at loosehead prop.

There will also be a first appearance of the season for Sean Robinson, included as one of the backline reserves.
