The EP Kings have announced the signing of South African born Italian scrum half Tobias Botes, who joined the team yesterday for the ABSA Currie Cup Premier Division season.

EP Rugby CEO, Charl Crous confirmed the signing, along with Australian lock Steve Cummins and tighthead prop Tom Botha; all three players have signed until the end of the 2014 season.

Botes, who was born in Worcester, Western Cape, played for Griquas between 2006 and 2008 before moving to the Cheetahs where he made his Super Rugby debut in 2008. He played three games before signing with Italian club Benetton Treviso.

Botes, who can also provide cover at fly-half, was selected on the bench for the Italians in their opening match against France in the 2012 Six Nations Championship. He has made 22 appearances for the Azzurri scoring 8 points.

Cummings, 22, captained the Australian Academy u19 side in 2011 and went on to represent Australia in the u20 IRB World Championship the following year.

The 23 year old Botha represented Western Province at youth level before joining the Sharks in 2009. The following year he moved back to Western Province where he represented them in the Vodacom Cup, before making his debut for Western Province in the 2012 Currie Cup Premier Division against the Sharks. Botha played two seasons at Montpellier before he joined the Kings.

“We are very excited to announce these new signings, with Tom and Steve who bring some additional cover to the forward pack, while Tobie is an experienced scrum-half with international experience,” said Crous

The Kings’ next game will be an International friendly against Wales on Tuesday 10 June, game kicks-off at 7pm.
