Pollard called up

Heyneke Meyer has made some changes to his squad ahead of Saturday’s test against Scotland in PE. The test falls outside of the IRB international window, meaning that clubs, rather than national unions, have first dibs on players. French and English clubs have exercised this right, meaning the loss of seven players.

Gurthrö Steenkamp (Toulouse), Schalk Brits (Saracens), Bakkies Botha (Toulon), Francois Louw (Bath), Morné Steyn (Stade Francais), Wynand Olivier (Montpellier) and Bryan Habana (Toulon, thus all drop out of contention this week, leaving the Boks rather thin indeed. Meyer has somewhat predictably summoned Baby Bok flyhalf Handre Pollard into the camp, wiuth the expectation that the young man will play off the bench at least. Ruan Pienaar looks the man likely to play flyhalf from the get-go. Pienaar is Irish-based, hence his continued availability.

Cheetah captain Adriaan Strauss has now served out his suspension and is also recalled, replacing England-bound Brits as hooking option in the squad.

Bok squad:
Willem Alberts (Sharks)
Marnitz Boshoff (Golden Lions)
Schalk Burger (Western Province)
