Sharks out in full force at Craven Week

There was a nice surprise in store for boys competing at this weeks’ Under 13 Craven Week at Glenwood High School in Durban yesterday, as the Cell C Sharks Super Rugby squad opted to base themselves at the same venue for the day.

Each team was lead into the opening ceremony by a Sharks player and the squad was vocal in their support and encouragement during the day – particularly when the KZN team played. Boys would also ahve been able to observe a Sharks Super Rugby practice, which also took place on a spare field at Glenwood.

Jake White and John Smit are determined that the Sharks senior squad, as the pride of rugby in the province, should be showcased as much as possible; it started with a number of high profile Super Rugby players turning out for their club first teams during the June International break, thus drastically increasing the pull of fans towards club rugby. Yesterday’s involvement in the Craven Week tournament served a similar aim, as well as burning an indelible image into the minds of the country’s top primary school rugby players.

The message is clear – if you want to be a rugby player when you’re big, this is the place you want to do it!
