Steyn back at flyhalf for Cape clash

Cell C Sharks Director of Rugby Jake White has re-entrusted Bok Frans Steyn with the all-important number 10 jersey for Saturday’s Super Rugby clash against the DHL Stormers in Cape Town.

Steyn moves from inside centre to replace the unfortunate Tim Swiel, who might well be in action for the Sharks under 21 side this weekend. Bok squad member Paul Jordaan is fit again after tweaking a hamstring and will operate in the number 12 shirt. The late switch ahead of last week’s game which saw JP Pietersen start at 13 (and S’bura Sithole at wing) has been confirmed this week, with both players named in those respective positions.

Cobus Reinach, Lwazi Mvovo and SP Marais all keep their spots in a back division that remains mostly unchanged after last week’s defeat in Bloemfontein.

Up-front, though, White has picked his strongest available side. Locks Anton Bresler and Stephen Lewies are retained, as is open-side flank Marcell Coetzee. Changes come at blind side and number 8, though, with Boks Willem Alberts and Ryan Kankowski picked to start. Brothers Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis are again reunited in the front row, while injuries to Beast Mtawarira and the unlucky Dale Chadwick have opened the door for Junior Bok Thomas du Toit to earn a first start at loosehead prop.

Changes on the bench see Wiehahn Herbst come in for a Sharks swansong – where he will provide emergency cover at loosehead – and Fred Zeilinga make a long-awaited return to the match day 23. Tera Mtembu and Odwa Ndungane join Swiel in missing out selection this week.

Cell C Sharks: 15 SP Marais, 14 S’bura Sithole, 13 JP Pietersen, 12 Paul Jordaan, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Frans Steyn, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Willem Alberts, 6 Marcell Coetzee, 5 Stephen Lewies, 4 Anton Bresler, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Bismarck du Plessis (capt), 1 Thomas du Toit
Replacements: 16 Kyle Cooper, 17 Wiehahn Herbst, 18 Lourens Adriaanse, 19 Etienne Oosthuizen, 20 Jean Deysel, 21 Charl McLeod, 22 Fred Zeilinga, 23 Tonderai Chavanga
