Heartbreak (and hand break) for Franna

The Sharks medical team has confirmed the worst, with flank Francois Kleinhans unlikely to play any further rugby this season.

Kleinhans had the number 7 on his back against the Pumas on Friday night, but didn’t even last quite that long in minutes, coming off six minutes into the game with what has now been confirmed as a hand fracture. The unlucky youngster, enjoying his first Currie Cup start after three frustrating seasons on the fringes, has been ruled out for 8 weeks.

Another new man, JC Astle, will sit out for the next 3 weeks, as a result of a hamstring strain. Astle has looked an encouraging player, but is now already into his second injury lay-off scarcely a month into his Sharks contract.

Etienne Oosthuizen has an ankle strain, which may improve enough during the week to allow him to face Griquas this weekend.
