The Sharks under 19 side recorded a tough 15 – 7 win against the Eastern Province under 19s in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening.

Right wing Marcel Coetzee opened the scoring for the Sharks after continual pressure from the visiting team. Despite the Kings coming away with the ball on their tryline, it was intercepted as Coetzeewent over for their first try. flyhalf Josh Bragman converted and the Sharks took an early 7 – 0 lead.

The Sharks took that same 7 – 0 lead into the half time break, as the Kings missed two earlier attempts at goal.

Sharks scrumhalf, Rowan Gouws scored his team’s second try after nice interplay between him and Coetzee down the right hand touchline. Bragman was unsuccessful with the touchline conversion as they took a 12 – 0 lead.

Handling made thing difficult for the Sharks as they played into a strong wind in the second half, but after a good period of pressure they took a comfortable 15 – 0 lead, after another successful penalty kick by Bragman.

Jeremy Ward scored a late try for the Kings, Malcolm Jaer converted as they trailed by 8, 7 – 15.

Despite putting all the pressure on the Sharks in the closing minutes the Kings were unable to add anything else to the score board, as the game ended 15 – 7.

Scorers:

Sharks u19 – Tries: Coetzee, Gouws, Conversion: Bragman (1), Penalty: Bragman (1)
EP Kings u19 – Try: Ward, Conversion: Jaer
