Further second row blow for Sharks

The bad news just keeps coming for the Sharks, with new lock Wiehan Hay’s Currie Cup debut against Griquas lasting just 35 minutes before the big man picked up a shoulder injury and had to be replaced.

The Sharks have now confirmed that Hay picked up an AC joint injury and will be sidelined for 3 weeks. Alongside Pieter-Steph du Toit, who is a season-long casualty, the Sharks are without new second-row recruit JC Astle, who has a fortnight left on the sidelines after injuring his hamstring.

Marco Wentzel is expected to partner Stephan Lewies against Free State this weekend; the sixth lock pairing in as many games. Etienne Oosthuizen, the only other recognized lock in the squad, is being used at flank, with only Johan Meyer now left as utility cover for the second row.
