EP Kings feel confident ahead of Bulls rematch

Eastern Province Kings Head Coach, Carlos Spencer said he has 100% confidence in the team he has selected for this weekend’s return match against the Blue Bulls at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.

Spencer made five changes to the match day fifteen, along with a further four changes to the bench compared to the team that went down 49 – 14 to Western Province at Newlands on Friday.

Springbok prop, CJ van der Linde gets a start as he replaces Tom Botha, who moves to the bench.

Devon Oosthuizen will also be returning from injury, and will be starting on the flank, replacing Paul Schoeman (who takes over from Aidon Davis who twisted his knee during practice on Monday).

Gary van Aswegen will start at flyhalf after an injury kept him off the field for the last two weeks. Shane Gates is the only other change to the side as he comes off the bench to replace Dwayne Jenner at inside centre.

Spencer has also opted to include an extra forward on the bench as he feels it is necessary to match the physicality of the Bulls up front.

“We can beat the Bulls. We understand that they are a better side than what they were three weeks ago. We know we have a massive challenge on our hands and the guys are excited by that,” said Spencer.

“The Bulls are coming off a good win against the Lions and we need to knock that confidence out,” he said.

Spencer said it was only natural that the team’s confidence had taken a knock having lost the last five games in a row, but said they had been working hard on addressing this and were working hard to turn it around.

“We have put the last five weeks behind us and are looking at this as the start of our season,” said Spencer.

“We have an opportunity to turn the season around, we want people to remember us for the five weeks coming, not the five weeks that have gone past,” he said.
