Heimar ruled out

The Sharks have revealed that center Heimar Williams, in his first Currie Cup start of the year, picked up a groin injury against Griquas on Saturday and is now likely to miss up to four weeks of action.

Williams made an encouraging start to the game and it was hoped that he might go on to deliver the sort of good distribution that made him a stand out in last year’s campaign. With his luck having taken a turn for the worse, though, it seems we are unlikely to see him again in 2014.

Another man to lose out on the injury front is prop Matt Stevens, who we believe will be out of action for the next 3 weeks, although details of the injury have not been confirmed. There’s some good news in that Stefan Ungerer and JC Astle should both filter back into the system over the next 1-2 weeks.

The Sharks haven’t been too badly hit in terms of injuries this season; here’s the casualty list as it currently stands:

Matt Stevens: 3 weeks (unknown)
JC Astle: 1 week (hamstring)
Wiehan Hay: 3 weeks (shoulder)
Francois Kleinahns: season (broken hand)
Pieter-Steph du Toit: season (knee)
Stefan Ungerer: fit to play after finger injury
Heimar Williams: 4 weeks (groin)
