We haven’t given this one piece of news enough coverage, so let’s discuss it a little on Jacques Botes Day.

“I can confirm that at the conclusion of the Absa Currie Cup tournament, Jacques Botes will take on an administrative role at The Sharks, where he will continue to provide mentorship for the younger players in our squad”, said CEO John Smit.

I, for one am incredibly pleased that one of our finest sons, a true hero of the black and white, will be staying with us, hopefully still for many years to come, to pass on what he’s learned – about professionalism, about humility, about duty and above all, about respect for the jersey and the fans. I don’t see how this move can be anything other than a great, great boost to any young man considering a professional career with the Sharks.

Well done, John. Well done Jacques! Long live the Black and White.
